Kubot – Sock
Lukasz enjoys playing on indoor hard courts, while Sock prefers slower surfaces. It will be hard for Sock to break Lukasz on fast court. But the Polish player lacks game practice, as he’s due to play his first match since June.
There would be a lot of breaks in this much, but we believe, that Sock should win.
Both player played well last week, but we see Troicki as a favorite, as he has a more consistent backhand.
Troicki is our pick.
Simon – Basilashvili
Simon is on good form and also has to defend many ranking points here. He is unbeatable when his motivation is strong. Basilashvili wouldn’t stand a chance.
Simon is an absolute favorite.
Goffin – Soeda
Goffin feels comfortable on fast courts. His recent loss from Fognini shouldn’t bother you, as Fognini showed an impressive tennis in that match. Soeda spends a lot of time on the baseline, but Goffin’s baseline game is much stronger.
Goffin is a favorite.
Ghasquet – Muller
Ghasquet always shows his best tennis at major events, arriving at such tournaments in top conditions. He also looks good against strong servers, having a good return and great passing shot in arsenal. But it looks like Ghasquet is building his form towards Paris and won’t be trying too hard in Shanghai. Muller is in good form either and should have a good match.
We expect to see a close match with unpredictable final score.
Fognini is on a different level than Sousa. He is much more powerful, moves faster and has a better technique. But Sousa is mentally very strong, which gives him a huge advantage.
We expect to see a hard-fought match.
