French Open R4 previews and predictions: Granollers – Thiem, Djokovic – Bautista Agut, Goffin - Gulbis
Marcel Granollers v Dominic Thiem
Fortune has definitely been on Marcel Granollers’ side so far this fortnight. The Spaniard has already benefited from two retirements and has taken out inconsistent Fognini. What else should he desire? Dominic Thiem’s route to the 1/8 stage was much tougher but we don’t believe he’ll lose the encounter just because he’s worn-out. At first glance it may seem that the Austrian should tear the Spaniard apart. Marcel scores loads of points due to his consistent baseline play. Dominic Thiem is much more powerful and never lacked consistency. However, in Monte-Carlo Masters Granollers has outplayed Alexander Zverev in the way foreign to him: he used the combination of drop volley and passing shots. Dominic Thiem is also unaccustomed to such tennis and if the Spaniard manages to involve him into such a net play, the match would be not that easy as everyone anticipates.
Betting pick: Not to bet at the match.
Novak Djokovic v Roberto Bautista Agut
Djokovic is safely through to the last 16 and has the right mood to lift the trophy. The Serb won’t be relaxed or underestimating his rivals. Novak will tear Roberto Bautstia Agut apart who is 0-4 in the head to head series and 0-9 in total sets. The match will have much in common with the Djokovic – Bedene. The Spaniard has nothing to resist the World No.1 with.
Betting pick: Djokovic in 3 (negative handicap).
David Goffin v Ernests Gulbis
David Goffin has taken out Nicolas Almagro in a five-set thriller mainly due to his consistency. The Belgian was faster at making right decisions. David has also showed flawless footwork and court placement but he has spent too much effort and may be a bit frustrated now. Ernests Gulbis has benefited from Tsonga’s retirement. The Latvian has almost lost the opening set against the Frenchman but in general he doesn’t look bad: he dictates the play with aggressive forehand and backhand shots. Yes, there are mistakes, but Gulbis would be not Gulbis with any mistakes. The both have most recently faced each other in Madrid where Goffin got the job done 3-6, 6-1, 7-5.
Betting pick: David is to win, but don’t bet on the handicaps market.

Everything in this match counts in favor of the Spaniard. Nadal, as a real locomotive, took long to get into stride. But having accelerated he becomes unstoppable. Rafa performed well in Madrid
Such evaluation of Gasquet from the bookmakers is understandable. The Frenchman lost his two previous encounters in a row to Monaco and Nadal, which is a sign of a bad form from Richard.
From the moment he appeared on courts, Kei Nishikori has always been one of 5 or 6 super talented promising players.
