Tennis tips and betting picks. Nicolas Almagro v Teymuraz Gabashvili in the Barcelona Open R1
After picking up some much-needed momentum in February, Nicolas Almagro went down and spent the entire March and half of April trying to set up his backhand wing. So far, he hasn’t managed to set it right and keeps making disappointing number of errors. But actually his forehand is not much better at the moment. The Spaniard lost the Monte-Carlo opening round meeting against Richard Gasquet in straight sets, which makes us think that he has some physical and concentration issues as well.
Teymuraz Gabashvili keeps running into serious first-round difficulties. The in-form Gimeno-Traver ousted Gabashvili in Marrakech, then the defeat came from Jiri Vesely in Monte-Carlo. Now it’ll be Nicolas Almagro, not the toughest opponent at first sight. But there’s always a probability that the Spain’s player will shine out, especially on his home courts. Nevertheless, it seems more real that Teymuraz will close out the match. The only controversial fact is the service play. On one hand, Almagro will serve big to earn easy points, on the other hand, Gabashvili will make a decent return. As for the baseline, the Russian will have an advantage in this component.
Betting pick: Dotennis bets that it’ll be a tough matchup between Nicolas Almagro and Teymuraz Gabashvili with equal chances to success.
