Tennis tips and betting predictions. Novak Djokovic v Andy Murray in the Australian Open final clash
On Friday the Serb managed to obtain an uneasy 7-6(1), 3-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 victory over Stan Wawrinka. The Swiss played very powerful offensive tennis applying much pressure on his opponent. But five sets was too much for the defending champion. Djokovic was able to close the last set 6:0 only when Wawrinka faded completely. Why did the match last so long? Both men possess high level offensive and defensive techniques (surely, it’s Wawrinka who makes more use of attacks but his passing shots are very efficient and baseline play is also above all praise). Keeping to the point, both players tried to avoid long rallies and wanted to save strength and power, so they hit diagonal shots which caused the great number of mistakes: 69 winners offset with 118.
Andy Murray plays completely different tennis. The Scott remains entirely on the defensive side hitting all balls back to the other side of the net. In this manner he outplayed Dimitrov and upset Berdych. Murray welcomes his opponents to attack and then runs along the baseline rightly handling every ball. And while Dimitrov can beat Murray on grass courts, on hard surfaces he had no chances. Berdych, who boasts more power, could have taken advantage of Murray, but his hands let him down as they started shaking and the Czech committed unacceptable number of double faults and unforced errors. Our team think that Djokovic’s attack is more dangerous than that of Dimitrov and the Serb’s will be able to take his emotions in control.
We expect the following course of the match. The Serb will take the initiative and try to punch a hole in the Scot’s defense. Surely, he has all tools in his arsenal to do that: cross-court diagonal shots, backhand and forehand strokes along the lines. We guess that mainly these elements will enable Djokovic to win the 5th Australian trophy. The only “but” is his 5-set match against Wawrinka. Yes, Novak is the World No.1 but he’s human. Four sets must be ok for him, but what if there is the fifth one? Novak may “die” on court.
To sum it up, Dotennis team recommend to consider two betting options: the negative handicap at Djokovic and his victory with 3:0 or 3:1 by sets. The risk takers may bet on Murray’s win in 5 sets. The bookmakers’ odds will be very high. The winning chances of this bet are small but not unreal.
