ATP Nottingham previews and predictions: Dolgopolov v Dancevic, Querrey v Baghdatis, Muller v Youzhny
Alexandr Dolgopolov v Frank Dancevic
Despite decent performance in the opening match, the Ukrainian shouldn’t be overestimated. We guess he won’t show his best after the injury. So we expect to see a match or two and then he should take a rest to prepare for the Wimbledon. Dancevic has poorer techniques and isn’t that fast, but compensate it with less mistakes than Kyle Edmund and sharper service play.
Betting pick: Dolgopolov should see Dancevic off but the handicap market is too risky to bet at it.
Sam Querrey v Marcos Baghdatis
Sam Querrey is fresh and ready to conquer the heights. The American has recorded excellent first serve percentage and has lost all the games in tough struggle only. Now we expect to see powerful tennis and confident service play. Baghdatis has also managed to improve on his average first serve winning percentage taking care of Evgeny Donskoy. The Cypriot is good in rallies and will have advantage over the American’s return. We expect to see an equal match with both of the players strongly holding the serve. The chances to see tie-breaks are huge.
Betting pick: Baghdatis is more consistent and therefore comes as a slight favorite to the Nottingham quarterfinals.
Gilles Muller v Mikhail Youzhny
Muller opened his Nottingham campaign by easily sailing past Jiri Vesely 7-6(2), 6-2. But we would ask the Luxembourgian what’s the purpose. An in-form Muller has good chances to run deep to the Wimbledon second week and probably defeat some of the tops. So why does he spend so much efforts in Nottingham is a question. Youzhny is able to produce good return and passing shots and he should give higher priority to the Aegon Championships than Muller. But the Russian is still a clear underdog against the perfectly serving Gilles.
Betting pick: Negative handicap on Muller.
